« Back : No Gas Supply

“We struggled for three years to find a heating system that worked efficiently and effectively. Since installing the Easy Heat radiator our house has been transformed.”

With no gas supply to their house, Mark and Catherine Stewart have battled against inefficient heating systems and rising utility bills in order to heat their three-bedroom detached house in the village of Ayton in the Scottish Borders.

Storage heaters were in place when the Stewart’s first moved in to their home three years ago. With winter bills at £750 a quarter the Stewart’s tried to heat their house with the two coal fires that were in the house, four bottled gas heaters and flat panelled radiators to reduce them but still ended up with high costs and a cold house. Frustrated, they went in search of a more efficient and cost effective way of heating their house and while searching the internet, they came across the Easy Heat range of electric water-filled radiators.

Wall mounted and easy to install, each unit looks just like a conventional, double panelled radiator but hides an internal mini boiler and pump which transforms each into a self-contained central heating system. Amazed with the product’s unique concept and the flexibility and control it offered, the Stewarts decided to trial one for their hall way. They were so impressed with the results that within three days they had ordered three more for the lounge and downstairs bedroom.

With the whole house working off electric, Mark monitors the meter reading everyday and has noticed a considerable drop in units being used and cheaper bills. He said: “Before we installed the Easy Heat system the house was constantly cold even though we were paying through the roof for electricity and the bottled gas.

“Since installing the radiators the house has been transformed. It has dried up the moisture in the living room and the home is warm throughout. The radiators are so efficient and because they work independently we can choose when and where the heat is needed without wasting energy heating up the whole house like a conventional central heating system does. This has resulted in us only paying £3 a day to run everything which is a third of what we were paying.”

With a choice of controls the radiators can work individually or as a group throughout the home. The Stewart’s have just ordered the Radio Frequency Control allowing them to programme a group of radiators to come on and off together with six different time and temperature settings prevent cold spots and overheating. Mark added: “We are now looking to expand the system to the upstairs rooms and with the possibility of running off Economy 10 our bills maybe reduced further. All with the extra bonus of no maintenance, installation costs or exposed pipework.”

Additional Information

Electric Heaters

Electric heaters are electrical appliances that change electrical energy into heat. Electric heaters consist of an electrical resistor. There are various types of electric heaters, and nearly all of them use the same physical principle to produce heat. However, they differ from each other in the way they deliver heat to the environment. Radiative electric heaters generally produce the most intense form of heat through a heating element within. Convection heaters heat the air through a heating element within by means of conduction. Fan electric heaters are a form of convection electric heaters, which include electric fans to speed up airflow.

Electric Heating

The effect of electric heating is mainly related to the production of electricity. The environmental impact of electric heating is actually dependant on the kind of electricity it consumes. Electric heating has a greater effect on the environment than heat pumps that provide the same amount of heat. Heat pumps are capable of providing larger amounts of heat, but the heat produced by electric heating is better. However, direct electric heating is generally not considered ecologically pleasant because most electricity uses fossil fuels, with up to two-thirds of energy in the fuel being lost at the power stations and in transmission losses.

Electric Radiators

Electric radiators consist of an electric resistance unit that is fixed in a reflector. Heat is generated when an electric current passes through this unit. A substantial portion of this heat is transferred from electric radiators by radiation. Initially, electric radiators were also known as ‘wet` system electric radiators. Electric radiators can be simply plugged into the usual wall sockets. For electric radiators to work efficiently, you can spur wire electric radiators into existing storage heating sockets, and then take the wire back to a unique control box. Professional electric radiator providers should obtain electric radiators for you so that you can have complete guidance about how to use them.

electrical heaters

It is becoming increasingly popular of modern home builders and renovators to install electrical heaters with in homes instead of the more traditional gas central heating systems. There are many benefits to installing electric radiators - this form of radiator is very easy and quick to install, ensuring minimal disruption to your home and lower costs for the installation. The radiator mounts onto unobtrusive wall fixings and is simply plugged into an electrical socket. These electrical heaters have other benefits over the old style system - a traditional fossil fuel system, can have as much as 30% of the heat produced vented to atmosphere through the flue. As electrical radiator units are independent all power consumed is converted into heat, with you seeing the benefit in your pocket instead of up in smoke. The electrical heaters can also have the individual room temperatures adjusted to suit occupancy ensuring a relaxing living environment. They are also considerably safer, as they do not produce carbon monoxide or any other harmful gases, there is no risk of explosion or danger from poisonous fumes.
